How the Process Works

Every year, there are hundreds of thousands of women and girls who do not have the money to cover the cost of a safe, legal abortion. If you, or someone you know, need help paying for abortion care, you can find a Fund in your area by viewing a map of the US or browsing a list of all our Funds.

Most abortion Funds provide a phone number for women to reach them. In many cases, you will be asked to leave a message. Be assured that a Fund member will return your call as soon as possible. Please listen carefully to specific directions for getting assistance from the Fund you are calling. Most Funds will need the following information in order to help you:

  • your name
  • a number where you can be contacted
  • whether it is safe to say who is calling when they return your call
  • how far along you are
  • any information about clinic appointments that you may have set up.

Some Funds operate by having clinic staff call them to arrange for funding. You can find out if the Fund in your area wants the clinic to call them by searching the list of Funds by state, and clicking on the name of the Fund located closest to you. If the Fund in your area is one of these Funds, your first step is to make an appointment with a clinic and ask them to contact the abortion Fund. Clinics who work regularly with the Funds may be familiar with the process. If not, you can tell the clinic staff, "I have the name of the ________ abortion Fund, which may be able to help me pay for my abortion since I am having trouble raising the full amount. This Fund works directly with clinics, so I am requesting that someone from your clinic call them with details of my situation and the cost for my procedure. Here is their number: ________."
